How to restore default configuration file

  • Find out what package installed the config file
root@puppet:~$ dpkg -S puppet.conf
puppet-common: /usr/share/man/man5/puppet.conf.5.gz
puppet-common: /etc/puppet/puppet.conf
puppet-common: /usr/share/puppet/ext/debian/puppet.conf
puppet-common: /usr/share/doc/puppet-common/examples/hiera/etc/puppet.conf

As we can see, the package that installed certificate is puppet-common

  • Now run this command to restore config file
apt-get -o Dpkg::Options::="--force-confmiss" install --reinstall puppet-common
